Finasteride, Gynaecomastia and Gynecomastia

Difficult News about my Breasts

I went to the GP about my recent urology clinic appointment. The letter sent from the clinic had been generated by AI from a voice recording of the consultation - it wasn't wrong, but it was incomplete.
Apparently this isn't unusual!

I wanted my GP to do two things that were agreed at the clinic but weren't clearly documented in the letter.

I wanted to add Tamsulosin to my Finasteride prescription to which the GP agreed.

I also wanted the GP to request hormone assays that the consultant declined to request.
The consultant wasn't convinced that my Gynaecomastia was due to Finasteride due to the short time lag between starting on it and the development of tissue. Hormone blood tests would be a pointer to whether there's a hormonal disturbance, but he said my GP should do the tests, not him.
Sigh.

The GP asked to examine my breasts to get more of an idea whether the Finasteride might have been the issue. If course I agreed.

She found a lump in my right breast.

So I've been referred urgently to the hospital breast clinic in case it's anything sinister.
I will be examined, get an ultrasound and a mammogram. I'll also get to discuss the results of all these tests and know if any other tests need doing.

In the meantime, I've had the hormone tests done by a reputable private laboratory and they are all normal. This indicates it may be the Finasteride after all.

Going to the breast clinic for these tests may be scary, but it's the best possible outcome as I'll (hopefully) get to have a conversation with someone who really understands gynaecomastia rather than the dismissive GPs I've seen.

I'm much less concerned about what they might find on the basis that 'what will be, will be' because I am bricking it because I'm out of control of the process. Plus I'll be one of very few men in a very pink space (if you understand me).

I'm pretty sure the lump is the Gynaecomastia not cancer, but......
